THE MISSION- Welcome to the Cordis web page. We are a contemporary Christian band. Our mission is one of truth. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life..." Lies corrode the lives and minds of many. External lies are everywhere. When entertained, the internal lies are the only truth I can comprehend. "The way, the Truth and the Life" is difficult to see when a wall of lies has been built to keep Him out. There is a real truth, and a mind riddled with lies needs to be saturated with the real truth. The word of God is truth...Jesus is truth. Our mission is to carry this message of truth through our music to those who wish to stop listening to the lies both internally and externally. There is "the way" out! IN RUINS-(10-05)--"My kingdom's fallen down, crumpled to the ground--In ruins, at the foot of the Cross." **Below, you will find band information, upcoming events and contact information.** For more info, please visit www.shoutlife.com/cordismusic |

THE BAND
Blaine Mengel 2 Cor 12:9 "But God said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, my power made perfect in weakness." |
Hello and welcome. I am a full-time professional bass fishing guide and father of three daughters, Hannah, Rebeckah, and Sarah. I began to participate in my walk with the Lord in 1995 when my plans "Backfired" (One of our song titles!). God literally dropped the message and the people necessary for its transmission into my lap. I was attracted to the lives of a few of these people who were "living right". Being a closed-minded and self-centered person, I resisted. My "What's in it for me today?" attitude had to be smashed and replaced with "You are God and I'm not, so How can I be useful to your plan today?". God flopped the clay on the wheel and the angels he placed in my life for assistance began the sculpting process. Today, I guide fishing trips full-time. I sing, read, play games and do art projects with my daughters. I go to my church several times weekly and attend fellowship meetings. God has truly blessed me and life has just begun. I hope you enjoy the music and accept the message. |

Bill Ragan Jn 21:28 "And Thomas answered unto him, "My Lord and My God!" |
Peace to you. I am a growing Christian, the son of a musical mother and a dedicated Dad, brother to a traveling brother and four independent sisters, husband of Betsy - a committed Christian and bright musical mother, father of Jimmy Sarah and Joseph - all faithfully musical too, and brother to those who seek to live and walk in the Way. I have had an interest in music from a young age, took lessons in percussion from fourth grade through college, and picked up the guitar along the way. I arrange Cordis' songs. I serve as Pastor of Hope United Church of Christ in Allentown, PA. |
Eric Rasmussen (E-Razz) Jn 1-14 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." us.’ |
The Lord is good! What a love He has for us. My mind still can’t grasp it. I gave my life to Him back in the early 80s. At that time I had given up music, which I’ve always loved. Through the years I’ve served as much as I can with church worship teams. I am currently serving as worship leader at the church I attend. I figured if the Lord wanted to use my talent further He’d open the doors. Now, HE has formed Cordis to make music to glorify His name. No better way to use your talent but for Him. I must say I am happily married to my sweet, caring, lovely wife Erica. We have two beautiful baby boys. Let everything that has breath praise Him! |

THE MUSIC
Cordis is made up of five talented musicians. Eric, Mike, Bill and Dawn express themselves beautifully through their individual contributions to each song. The hand of the Holy Spirit grasps the individuality from each of them, ties in the story each song has to tell through the lyrics and creates some amazing music! Our music is a unique blend of acoustic-based rock, ballads and sharper, rockier messages. The lyrics are an expression of my walk with my Creator, the before, the after as well as everything in the middle...The confusion, the revelation, the forgiveness, the salvation! The main focus of each song is the story, the Gospel Message.
Cordis is Latin for "of the heart". Our music is just that. After attending a Sarah Kelly concert with my 8-year-old daughter, Hannah, at Hackman's Bible Bookstore in the summer of 2005, a fire began burning in my heart to sing and play music both for and about God. She stated during the concert, "Anyone can write a song." I had written songs earlier in life with twisted, depressing lyrics. The love of my Creator resides in my heart, and this is one of many ways he has shown me I can carry his message of hope, truth and love.
I taught myself how to play bass guitar at a beginner's level at age 19. With no ability to read or arrange sheet music, my writing was done on a bass and with an awful lot of humming! Bill and I have been acquainted for several years. He is excellent on both the guitar and drums. For lack of a better term, I was probably whining about not being able to play guitar good enough to express the music. he said that he could. Bill, having some previous in-studio experience, and I began arranging a few of the songs and used the ancient 4-track and 8-track recording methods! That's how a couple of "bums" do it, even in the age of technology!
Playing several times per month for friends and after fellowship meetings (many times in the parking lot!), the fire burned brighter. While speaking to a pastor acquaintance, Bill mentioned our music and lack of funds and recording "prowess"! A short time after that conversation, we were in Gary Piatt's basement studio laying tracks for our first demo. We are currently pursuing coffee house, church and fellowship gigs. Cordis grew in February 2007 as Eric Rasmussen has added his ear-catching lead guitar to the mix. Eric's and Bill's styles compliment each other beautifully. In September '07, Mike Adams added his talent on bass guitar to Cordis. And as of march 2008, Cordis became complete as Dawn Dengler joined Cordis as our drummer. These outstanding musicians are making my "job" much easier. Stay tuned, God's at it again!
